<p>All children aged 4-11 are welcome to join the challenge at their local library, starting 5th July.</p>

<h4>What is the Summer Reading Challenge?</h4>

<p>The Summer Reading Challenge is a free holiday activity for children. It&rsquo;s all about reading for fun and developing children&rsquo;s reading skills and confidence. The Challenge runs every year throughout the summer holidays.</p>

<h4>How does it work?</h4>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Head to your local Lewisham Library with your grown up and ask to join the Summer Reading Challenge. If you don&rsquo;t have a library card (or can't find it) don't worry, <span dir="ltr">we only need to see proof of a parent or guardian's name and address</span> to sign you up to the library.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Read six books over the summer holidays, tell us what you think about each book and collect fun rewards. You can read anything you like such as stories, illustrated books, information books, graphic novels (comics), dyslexia friendly books, poetry or audiobooks.</p>

<p>The borough of Lewisham includes the ancient parishes of St Margaret, Lee and St Mary, Lewisham, also the parish of St Paul, Deptford (the ancient parish of Deptford was divided in 1730 into the parishes of St Nicholas and St Paul. The parish of St Nicholas is now in the London Borough of Greenwich).</p>

<p>The borough also includes the following districts: Bellingham, Beckenham (part), Blackheath (part), Brockley, Catford, Crofton Park, Downham, Forest Hill, Grove Park, Hatcham, Hither Green, Ladywell, New Cross, Southend, Sydenham.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>This area was in the county of Kent until 1889 when the London County Council was formed. The exception was the Hatcham/New Cross area of Deptford, which was in Surrey.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Deptford was in the Greenwich Registration District. Lee and Lewisham were in the Lewisham Registration District.</p>

<p>Our friendly Home Library Service staff run a monthly service.</p>
<p>The items you can borrow through the service include books in normal or large print, talking books, music CDs and some films on DVD. There is no age limit on this service and it is completely free.&nbsp;</p>

<p>We offer this service to Lewisham residents and their carers who through age, disability, or illness are not able to visit a library.</p>

<h3><strong>Terms and Conditions </strong></h3>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><strong>Eligibility to join </strong></p>
<p>&bull; Anyone who lives, works or studies in the UK, with a permanent UK address, can become a member of Lewisham Libraries. If you do not currently have a fixed address or proof of address, we may still be able to help, so please ask for assistance.</p>
<p>&bull; Although not mandatory, providing an email address or phone number allows us to contact you regarding reservations, item due dates and other necessary Lewisham Libraries information.</p>
<p>&bull; If you are under 14 years old we ask that a parent or legal guardian act as a guarantor.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><strong> When you become a library member </strong></p>
<p>&bull; You are entitled to borrow from all Lewisham libraries plus The Libraries Consortium (TLC) collections.</p>
<p>&bull; You are responsible for everything taken on your card; you should not lend it to anyone, including members of your own family. If you lose your card, please tell us immediately. We may make a small charge to replace a lost card.</p>
<p>&bull; You are entitled to free use of the computers in all TLC libraries and access to the library reference resources online at <a href="https://libraries.lewisham.gov.uk/digital-content/elibrary">https://libraries.lewisham.gov.uk/digital-content/elibrary</a>.</p>
<p>&bull; You may borrow free of charge:</p>
<ul>
<li>Up to 20 books, 18 eBooks/eAudio, 6 music CDs, for 3 weeks</li>
<li>Up to 3 DVDs for 1 week (subject to BBFC age ratings)</li>
<li>eNewspapers, eMagazines and eComics on your personal devices</li>
</ul>
<p>&bull; Most of our lending library stock is free to borrow, is easily renewed online, over the phone or in person, and may be returned to any TLC library. Items are due back by the date printed on the receipt at the self-checkout terminals or viewable online; charges may be made for late return.</p>
<p>&bull; You will receive automated notifications by email regarding items that are due or overdue and reserved items ready for collection. Changing details and card expiry</p>
<p>&bull; Please inform us as soon as possible if your address or contact details change.</p>
<p>&bull; If your account is inactive for a continuous period of 3 years with no outstanding charges, TLC&rsquo;s library management system will automatically delete your details to comply with data protection regulations. If you wish to use the library but your account has expired due to inactivity, you will be asked to re-register and provide proof of name and current address.</p>

<p><strong>Use of IT services within the library</strong></p>
<p>&bull; When using library technologies (e.g. public WiFi on your own device, Lewisham Libraries computers, printers or other hardware) you are bound by the terms of the Computer Misuse Act 1990, the UK GDPR, the Digital Economy Act 2010 and Lewisham&rsquo;s own terms of use. <p>&bull; Individual library service providers in Lewisham and TLC may have additional terms of use that will apply when their using IT facilities. These will be made clear upon accessing the facilities.</p>

<p><strong>Data protection and privacy policy</strong></p>
<p>&bull; Lewisham Libraries comply with the United Kingdom General Data Protection Regulation and Data Protection Act 2018.</p>
<p>&bull; Your personal data is securely stored at all times and can only be accessed by those persons who are authorised to provide library services within TLC. There may be occasions when your data will be shared within the Council when required by law, or with contracted organisations to deliver specific services.</p>

They’ll get stuck into sewing, crafting & designing projects to instill a sense of confidence & pride. These sessions are open to kids of all sewing abilities, from complete newbies to confident creators. Regardless of their ability, they’ll leave with new knowledge & progress on projects appropriate to their skill level.

This is a great extracurricular activity that will give your child transferable life skills. They’ll learn to use a sewing machine and discover loads of other craft & design techniques including: appliqué, embroidery, free machining, dressmaking, pattern cutting, & more!

What’ll they make

Each child will tackle a project of their choosing, individually guided by teachers. We have a huge range of projects on offer so they can choose to make something they will love & cherish for years to come.

They can also choose fabric and trims available in our studio. We have everything, from regular cotton and standard buttons, to plush faux fur and sequins – a dream for imaginative young makers!
