<h2>Welcome to Marvellous Makers, the 2024 Summer Reading Challenge</h2>

<p>All children aged 4-11 are welcome to join the challenge at their local library, starting 6th July.</p>

<h4>What is the Summer Reading Challenge?</h4>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>The Summer Reading Challenge is a free holiday activity for children. It&rsquo;s all about reading for fun and developing children&rsquo;s reading skills and confidence. The Challenge runs every year throughout the summer holidays.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<h4>How does it work?</h4>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Head to your local Lewisham Library with your grown up and ask to join the Summer Reading Challenge. If you don&rsquo;t have a library card (or can't find it) don't worry, <span dir="ltr">we just need to see proof of a parent or guardian's name and address</span> to sign you up to the library.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Read six books over the summer holidays, tell us what you think about each book and collect fun rewards. You can read anything you like such as stories, illustrated books, information books, graphic novels (comics), dyslexia friendly books, poetry or audiobooks.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<h4>Who is it for?</h4>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Whether you currently love reading or hate it, you struggle with chapter books or you only read comics, the Summer Reading Challenge is for you! We'll help you find the books you&rsquo;ll love to read.</p>

<p>And if you already love reading, tell us what types of books you like and we'll find more exciting reads for you.</p>

<h4>What are the rewards?</h4>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>When you sign up to the challenge you will receive a fun fold out poster with space to add your stickers and book reviews. You'll receive a sticker for each book you read as well as prizes including <span dir="ltr">origami paper, coloured pencils, door hangers and pop badges</span>. When you&rsquo;ve finished the challenge you'll receive a certificate, a medal and a great big 'well done' from us!</p>

<p>If you can&rsquo;t make it to a library over the summer you can do the challenge <a href="https://summerreadingchallenge.org.uk/" target="_blank" aria-invalid="true" rel="noopener">online</a> instead. <p>BIPC Lewisham is a fully funded service, based within our hub libraries at Catford, Deptford and Downham, and accessible to all residents and businesses operating in the borough. BIPC Lewisham is a partnership between Lewisham Library Services, the Economy, Jobs and Partnerships department and the British Library. Some services and resources require a Lewisham Libraries card.</p>

<p>BIPC Lewisham is part of the British Library&rsquo;s&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bl.uk/business-and-ip-centre/national-network" target="_blank" rel="noopener">National Network</a>&nbsp;and aims to extend the provision of business support in the Borough of Lewisham, by helping aspiring entrepreneurs, start-ups and established businesses to increase their entrepreneurial skills and confidence, as well as providing access to business information and resources. <p>Our friendly Home Library Service staff run a monthly service.</p>
<p>The items you can borrow through the service include books in normal or large print, talking books, music CDs and some films on DVD. There is no age limit on this service and it is completely free.&nbsp;</p>

<p>We offer this service to Lewisham residents and their carers who through age, disability, or illness are not able to visit a library.</p>

<p>Archive material is available by appointment only.</p>

<p>The material we hold is in many cases irreplaceable, so it must be treated with great care. You will need to leave any large bag in a locker, and to use a pencil rather than a pen for making notes from archives.</p>

<p>Food and drink must not be consumed anywhere in the local history and archives centre.</p>

<h3>The area we cover</h3>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>The borough of Lewisham includes the ancient parishes of St Margaret, Lee and St Mary, Lewisham, also the parish of St Paul, Deptford (the ancient parish of Deptford was divided in 1730 into the parishes of St Nicholas and St Paul. The parish of St Nicholas is now in the London Borough of Greenwich).</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>The borough also includes the following districts: Bellingham, Beckenham (part), Blackheath (part), Brockley, Catford, Crofton Park, Downham, Forest Hill, Grove Park, Hatcham, Hither Green, Ladywell, New Cross, Southend, Sydenham.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>This area was in the county of Kent until 1889 when the London County Council was formed. The exception was the Hatcham/New Cross area of Deptford, which was in Surrey.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Deptford was in the Greenwich Registration District. Lee and Lewisham were in the Lewisham Registration District.</p>

<p><strong>Eligibility to join </strong></p>
<p>&bull; Anyone who lives, works or studies in the UK, with a permanent UK address, can become a member of Lewisham Libraries. If you do not currently have a fixed address or proof of address, we may still be able to help, so please ask for assistance.</p>
<p>&bull; Although not mandatory, providing an email address or phone number allows us to contact you regarding reservations, item due dates and other necessary Lewisham Libraries information.</p>
<p>&bull; If you are under 14 years old we ask that a parent or legal guardian act as a guarantor.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><strong> When you become a library member </strong></p>
<p>&bull; You are entitled to borrow from all Lewisham libraries plus The Libraries Consortium (TLC) collections.</p>
<p>&bull; You are responsible for everything taken on your card; you should not lend it to anyone, including members of your own family. If you lose your card, please tell us immediately. We may make a small charge to replace a lost card.</p>
<p>&bull; You are entitled to free use of the computers in all TLC libraries and access to the library reference resources online at <a href="https://libraries.lewisham.gov.uk/digital-content/elibrary">https://libraries.lewisham.gov.uk/digital-content/elibrary</a>.</p>
<p>&bull; You may borrow free of charge:</p>

<li>Up to 20 books, 18 eBooks/eAudio, 6 music CDs, for 3 weeks</li>
<li>Up to 3 DVDs for 1 week (subject to BBFC age ratings)</li>
<li>eNewspapers, eMagazines and eComics on your personal devices</li>
</ul>
<p>&bull; Most of our lending library stock is free to borrow, is easily renewed online, over the phone or in person, and may be returned to any TLC library. Items are due back by the date printed on the receipt at the self-checkout terminals or viewable online; charges may be made for late return.</p>
<p>&bull; You will receive automated notifications by email regarding items that are due or overdue and reserved items ready for collection. Changing details and card expiry</p>
<p>&bull; Please inform us as soon as possible if your address or contact details change.</p>
<p>&bull; If your account is inactive for a continuous period of 3 years with no outstanding charges, TLC&rsquo;s library management system will automatically delete your details to comply with data protection regulations. If you wish to use the library but your account has expired due to inactivity, you will be asked to re-register and provide proof of name and current address.</p>

Celebrating Black History Month, enjoy a cameraless photography session inspired by the work of Carrie Mae Weems an American artist working in text, fabric, audio, digital images and installation video, and is best known for her photography. She achieved prominence through her early 1990s photographic project The Kitchen Table Series. 

Adult Learning Lewisham's photography tutor Federico Rivas will provide support and access to a mobile cyanotype kit enabling you to connect with your creativity using the beautiful process of cyanotype printing. You will focus on creating your own cyanotype prints that explore personal identity. 

Please be aware this was originally scheduled for Wednesday 30th October, no need to book, just come along. Apologies for any inconvenience caused.
