Description:
Did you know the Sainsbury's in the Riverdale Centre was the largest self-service branch in Europe? That the brutalist Eros House in Catford was once flanked by a branch housed in concrete? Who remembers the Savacentre in Sydenham? One of your favourite social media accounts is the Sainsbury Archive. Sharing objects from the supermarkets vaults such as quirky branding for foods such as Kesp pie (a meat substitute from the late 70s/early 80s) and eye-popping graphics for goods such as one size pop socks and strawberry fool . It’s an extensive collection, so Lewisham Heritage asked them: what do you have on Lewisham’s stores? Join Allison Foster, who has been the Sainsbury Archivist for over six years and is based at the Museum of London Docklands, in exploring the history of the company and your local Lewisham stores for Lewisham Heritage.
