Description:
Join Lewisham Heritage for the first in a series of Tea Time Talks! One of the tangible parts of the collection we have access to is the council bomb records. Five filing cabinets worth of incident by incident reporting from 1939 - 1945: detailing every bomb that hit the borough of Lewisham and Deptford. But the records record so much more than that. Not only the type of bomb, but the damage done, the resources required to clean up afterwards, a list of those who lost their lives and so on. The records are amazing, immersive part of the story of the Second World War in Lewisham and Deptford. Valentina Briganti has been cataloguing these records to reacquaint Lewisham heritage with this valuable resource, and in her talk she will share the discoveries she made, from how reporting to incidents occurred, the common occurrences that were met at every incident and the personal stories of those involved. Tea and refreshments are provided: this is the first in a series of talks seeking to establish social connectivity with community and history. If you have a accessibility needs, please drop us an e-mail to ensure your comfort ahead of the talk.
