All at sea in the digital world? Tangled up in the world wide web? Broken down on the hard shoulder of the information superhighway?
Catbytes Digital Community are here to help! Every Saturday from 10 to 12, we’ll have a table set aside for a drop-in clinic with a friendly expert. Whether you’re trying to complete an online form or use your personal devices, struggling with a website or confused about app permissions, come on by and we’ll take a look.
No need to book a space, no charge – just turn up with your problem and any devices you might need help with. You can access the internet through the library computers if necessary.
Our book writing club encourages primary school age children to write and develop their storytelling, spelling and handwriting skills. We also design book covers and cards, and read out loud together to develop speech and confidence.
The book writing club is free to attend. Meetings are weekly during term-time only.
Please note: The book writing club is currently at capacity and is not accepting new members. However, if you are interested then you can leave a name and contact number with the library – we will contact you if places become available.

The Deptford People’s Heritage Museum is a Black-led, volunteer-run ‘museum without walls’ that is dedicated to exploring the Deptford Dockyard’s legacies of colonialism and enslavement, and the struggles for freedom in relation to the experience of our community today. The Museum is governed by a ‘village ethos’, involving current and ancestral voices in its ongoing process of museum making, and building relationships between the past, present and future. In this talk, directors Joyce Jacca, Tracey Jarrett and Janna Graham will share the museum's history and work, and introduce its current project, The Monument is the Struggle, which investigates how histories of colonial dispossession and resistance in Deptford register in the struggles of the present.
Do you like beer? Do you enjoy reading? And do you love (or can you at least tolerate) the sound of your own voice? Good!We love the sound of your voice. In collaboration with Ignition Brewery, Sydenham Library is proud to launch a new regular evening event: Tales On Tap. It’s a simple idea: we gather together, we drink beer – or wine, juice, water, whatever you like – and we read to one another. What do we read? Whatever you like. A chapter from that novel you can’t put down, a poem that broke you in half the other day, a newspaper column that made you chuckle. It could even be something you’ve written, if you’re feeling particularly brave.Shared reading is not just enjoyable for its own sake but offers a new way of thinking about the written word. It’s not exactly a book group. It’s not quite a writing circle. It’s certainly not just an evening in the pub. It’s something new that we’re trying, and we hope you’ll come and try it too. Please note that this event will NOT take place at the library; we meet at Ignition Brewery, 44a Sydenham Road, SE26 5QX. You can book your free place at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/tales-on-tap-tickets-1394365046389
