In celebration of East and South East Asian (ESEA) Heritage month, Deptford Library Cinema Club is thrilled to be joined by three poets in association with the London Writers Centre - Helen Bowell, yuwei 魚尾 and Erica Hesketh. The poets have each picked an ESEA film to screen, before which they will read a selection of their poems corresponding to theme of their chosen film.
For the September 3rd screening, we're delighted to be joined by Helen Bowell, who will be reading poetry exploring the queer migrant experience.
To find out which film she has chosen to screen, as well as the rest of the September schedule, please sign up to our monthly newsletter here. Full film schedules are also advertised within the library.
Helen Bowell's debut pamphlet The Barman (Bad Betty Press, 2022) was a Poetry Book Society Choice. She co-directs Dead [Women] Poets Society, edited the first anthology of bi+ poets, Bi+ Lines (fourteen poems, 2023), and is now fourteen poems' co-editor.
This event is part of Deptford Library Cinema Club - free film screenings every Thursday at 6:00pm, and every last Friday of the month at 2:00pm, with a discussion group every last Thursday of the month at 6:00pm.
You can also follow us on Letterboxd, where you'll be able to see our Letterboxd Top Four (the club's most voted for films), as well as every film we've ever screened! You’ll also be able to leave comments on our monthly shortlists as well as the new schedule – let us know your favourites!
