In celebration of East and South East Asian (ESEA) Heritage month, Deptford Library Cinema Club is thrilled to be joined by three poets in association with the London Writers Centre - Helen Bowell, yuwei 魚尾 and Erica Hesketh. The poets have each picked an ESEA film to screen, before which they will read a selection of their poems corresponding to theme of their chosen film.
For the September 10th screening, we're delighted to be joined by yuwei 魚尾, who will be reading poetry exploring South-East Asian nomadic culture.
To find out which film she has chosen to screen, as well as the rest of the September schedule, please sign up to our monthly newsletter here. Full film schedules are also advertised within the library.
yuwei 魚尾 (she/they) is a neuroqueer mixed-Chinese poet and writer based in London. She is a member of the 2025 London Writers Centre Poetics Lab, and a 2026 Brooklyn Poets Fellowships finalist. Her writing explores gendered trauma, diasporic memory, and queer becoming. Her poetry film was showcased at Queer East Festival 2025 as an official selection.
This event is part of Deptford Library Cinema Club - free film screenings every Thursday at 6:00pm, and every last Friday of the month at 2:00pm, with a discussion group every last Thursday of the month at 6:00pm.
