In celebration of East and South East Asian (ESEA) Heritage month, Deptford Library Cinema Club is thrilled to be joined by three poets in association with the London Writers Centre - Helen Bowell, yuwei 魚尾 and Erica Hesketh. The poets have each picked an ESEA film to screen, before which they will read a selection of their poems corresponding to theme of their chosen film.
For the September 17th screening, we're delighted to be joined by Erica Hesketh, who will be reading poetry exploring folktales and the environment.
To find out which film she has chosen to screen, as well as the rest of the September schedule, please sign up to our monthly newsletter here. Full film schedules are also advertised within the library.
Erica Hesketh is a poet and editor, originally from Japan and Denmark, now based in Forest Hill, south-east London. Widely published in magazines and journals, she placed second in the 2022 Winchester Poetry Prize, and was commended in the 2023 Magma Poetry Competition and 2023 Stanza Competition. She was longlisted in the 2023 National Poetry Competition. From 2016 to 2024 she was Director of the Poetry Translation Centre and is currently the Artistic Director for the Winchester Poetry Festival. Her debut collection, In the Lily Room, was published by Nine Arches Press in 2025.
