Online resources for children and young people 

 

All of these resources can be accessed remotely with your library card number and pin, with the exception of 'Issues Online' which has log in details below, and Voxblock audio players which can be borrowed in person from Catford and Deptford libraries. Our staff will be happy to help you with all of these resources.

 

 

Britannica Library 

 

Britannica Library is a safe and trusted site designed for homework help and learning. The library of over 100,000 articles and 60,000 media assets is regularly refreshed to ensure that up-to-date information is available — keeping young minds on top of our ever-changing world. 

 

Britannica Library Junior for ages 5-10 contains safe, fact-checked, age-appropriate content for homework help and learning, covering the subjects of art, history, geography, science and much more. 

  

Britannica Library Student for ages 10-14 contains up to the minute news, articles, videos, facts and assignment resources.

Issues Online 

 

Issues Online is designed to support young people's studies in a broad range of topics, particularly current social issues. Thousands of articles, statistics and infographs are instantly available to help with research and assignments. The powerful search system allows you to find relevant information quickly, easily and safely anytime from a laptop, tablet or smartphone. 

 

Issues Online supports study across these levels - Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, Pathways, EPQ, NVQs, Diplomas, GCSE and A Level.

Voxblock 

 

Voxblock players are fun, screen-free, and internet-free audiobook devices designed for children aged 3 to 12. These intuitive, durable players allow kids to explore stories independently or enjoy hands-free listening during family time.  

 

Voxblock players and audiobooks are available to borrow from Catford and Deptford Libraries for two weeks at a time, completely free. They can't be reserved or renewed, and can only be borrowed in person to be returned to any Lewisham Library. 1 player and up to 3 audiobooks can be borrowed per child. PressReader offers a large selection of magazines and comics for young readers, covering interests such as nature, animals, fashion, sports, and art. The Children & Tweens category on PressReader is specifically designed to offer age-appropriate content. The platform can be used to enhance media literacy, critical thinking and research skills.

Comics Plus 

 

Enjoy free, unlimited access to thousands of digital comics, graphic novels and manga from a range of exciting mainstream and independent publishers. The junior collection allows children to browse for themselves. Use your library card number and pin to log in.
